It's a supplemental program consisting of a Synopsis, Character descriptions, Meet The Writers, Director's Vision, History of the 1984 British Miners Strike, a Glossary of Geordie dialect and terms, and the cast members' Our Billy Elliot Stories. The staff was exceptional, the whole experience magical. Goodspeed has published this excellent Billy Elliot Audience Insights. There is a small gift shop/snack station on the first floor for intermission and of course a bar behind with special member rooms for congregation between acts. This did not dampen my enjoyment of the whole experience as I am fascinated by old buildings and historical perspective- both of which this beautiful structure delivers in spades Parking is scattered about the place, and if you’re interested in a whole evening experience, the beautiful Gelston House, equally as old as the opera house, is adjacent to satisfy your culinary needs. If you have a tall gentleman seated in front of you, as I did, there’s not really a great way to get around a visual blockage other than to constantly crane your neck and shift your position. The only unfortunate aspect to this arrangement is that there is no gradation to the floor so each row is at the same level with the exception of the balconies and the very very back of the main orchestra. To state that there are no bad seats in the house would be a severe understatement – – you feel like you’re in someone’s living room, Elbow to elbow with friends and family. You enter through the beautiful Victorian doorways, encountering a large staircase in front of you – – the playhouse is actually on the third floor so conquering several staircases is required to get to the main theater. I was surprised by how small it is on the inside compared to the perception from the exterior. BILLY ELLIOT runs 2 hrs and 50 minutes including a 15 minute intermission Goodspeed gives the show an Age Rating: PG-13 for mature themes, harsh language, and some violence. I have passed this beautiful Riverside establishment a 100 times or more in my life but finally got inside the doors for a show recently.
